Beyond The Surface
Frozen surface of Lake Silvaplana, Engadin, Switzerland. Lake Silvaplana is normally completely frozen in winter. On its frozen surface people are used to practicing sporting activities such as Nordic skiing, ice skating or trekking. Furthermore, many large events take place on the Engadine lakes which attract many tourists and visitors. The rise in temperatures and the decrease in snowfall make the ice period of the lake surface shorter, with consequences also on the thickness of the ice and the mixing of the water. The albedo capacity of the lake surface also changes.
