Beyond The Surface
Sopranes Lakes, South Tyrol, Italy, 2024. The Sopranes Lakes are 10 natural lakes located on a plateau over 2000 meters in the Tessa Group, above Merano in South Tyrol. These lakes represent significant natural and landscape heritage. Their waters and shores host an immense but fragile biodiversity. Small Alpine lakes are among the most sensitive to climate change. Consequently, they are the subject of increasingly in-depth research, allowing researchers to predict outcomes for other aquatic ecosystems.
